Assistant Director, Operations – HR Support Services An outstanding leader with expertise in human resources, employee relations, contract administration, and collective bargaining will welcome this opportunity to join the Peel District School Board as Assistant Director, Operations – and part of the Human Resources Support Services management team. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources Support Services, you will provide system and departmental leadership on a variety of Human Resources functions, including Employee Relations, HRIS, Records Management, Teacher Personnel and Support Services. This will include developing, implementing and maintaining effective Human Resources policies and procedures, as well as developing and managing HR strategic goals and initiatives. Your strengths as a communicator and facilitator will shine in your role as Assistant Director, Operations, as you collaborate and liaise with Board, Union and Federation representatives, and provide counsel and guidance on the interpretation and operational implementation of collective agreements for academic and support staff groups, employment and labour legislation, and Board policies and procedures. With your professional knowledge and insight, the Board’s management and senior administration will also count on you as a resource for support and advice on complex labour and employee relations – from performance management, and academic and non-academic staffing, to progressive discipline, grievance and termination matters. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS The leadership position of Assistant Director of Operations is a significant mandate calling for no fewer than 10 years’ progressive related experience with a background in Human Resources, employee relations, labour relations and employment law. Your professional profile will also include the following: University degree related to Law or Human Resources, or equivalent related education and directly related experience, or Supervisory Officer Certificate, or current enrolment in the SOQP CHRP designation (preferred) Experience in the public/education sector in a multi-union environment (an asset) Expertise in labour relations, and contract administration, preferably in the education sector Experience in collective bargaining and as a representative before labour and employment-related tribunals Working knowledge of employment and employment-related statutes and principles of labour and employment law, including, but not limited to, the Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act, Education Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, Ontario College of Teachers Act, Teaching Profession Act, and human resources practices, policies and procedures Experience in various dispute resolution/services such as tribunals, mediation, conciliation, arbitration and investigation Strategic focus and proven ability to think broadly and to mitigate organizational risk related to human resources matters Highly developed skill in contractual language development and the ability to analyze statutes and case law and to apply general principles of law Demonstrated highly effective leadership skills and experience in managing a team and challenging situations Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster teamwork and to work effectively with all levels of the Board, Unions and Federations Excellent research, investigative and analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy Excellent communication skills, including the ability to collaborate, negotiate, facilitate, resolve conflict and manage complex, sensitive situations Excellent organizational, planning and creative problem-solving abilities Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment. Salary: $138,525 – $145,604 per annum Duties are to commence December 1, 2017.
