Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing financial support to Canadian Retirement and Ontario Long Term Care. 



The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:


·         Preparation of monthly funding revenue journal entries by Day 3

·         Preparation of monthly reconciliation funded revenue by property by Day 4

·         Assist in the preparation of the monthly review for compliance of the eligibility of envelope expenses related to OLTC

·         Assist with accuracy of HIN reporting and subsequent receipt of funding

·         Preparation and completion of all required financial regulatory filings with the health funding authority and other government agencies and ensure all filings are completed within the deadlines

·         Review of monthly property reporting packages ensuring completeness and accuracy of the financial information is completed on a timely and accurate basis

·         Monthly review and follow up on outstanding reporting package file notes with the Property Accountants to ensure that open items are reviewed and cleared

·         Accountable for the preparation of working paper files and collecting of sample documentation for the annual funding audits

·         Maintain documentation of all funding related revenues by government agency

·         Maintain and update of any templates used for funding reporting/calculations

·         Continuously striving to develop recommendations for process enhancements to optimize property-level financial reporting

·         Performing special projects as requested



The ideal candidates will possess:


·         Related Long Term Care industry experience (preferred)

·         Required experience in accounting finance roles:                        3 – 5 years

·         University degree (Business/Finance related)

·         Professional accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA) or equivalent work experience

·         Strong knowledge of IFRS and Canadian GAAP (required)

·         Public company experience (preferred)

·         Knowledge of industry specific accounting principles (preferred)

·         Knowledge of various provincial funding models and policies relating to provincial assisted living and Long Term Care health sector (preferred)

·         Knowledge of Tenant Protection Act and similar legislation in other jurisdictions

·         Strong computer skills – ERP Software, Microsoft Office (required)

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

·         Self-motivated, creative and innovative

·         Irregular hours may be required.

·         Criminal reference check required

·         Occasional travel may be required

·         Bilingual (preferred)
