Technical Support Specialist

• Permanent position Your PC/LAN technical support expertise is well established, enabling you to play a key role as part of the Peel District School Board’s Learning Technology Support Service team in ensuring that hardware and software across all Board facilities are operating efficiently to meet program and user needs.

Reporting to the PC/LAN Team Leader, you’ll provide application support, maintenance and installation of computer hardware and software for the Central Board Office, school offices, instructional classrooms, and field offices. You’ll set up and maintain computer networks, implement LANs, provide support for administrative systems, and assist the Internetworking Team with communications equipment installation and maintenance, and problem resolution. A skilled communicator with technical and non-technical users, you’ll support school staff by installing application and operating system software, assisting in setting up and using hardware and peripherals, and providing training on software and hardware. Testing, debugging and evaluating operating systems, applications software and user interfaces will be other essential aspects of this job. This day-shift position, working 7 hours between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., requires the ability to travel to any location within the Board and could, accordingly, involve transporting equipment. EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS The skills and knowledge you’ll exhibit in carrying out the duties of Technical Support Specialist have a solid foundation: a post-secondary education in an applicable discipline and a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in technical support of PC/LAN environments. In addition, your professional profile includes: Expertise with MS Windows, MS Office Suite, Apple Technology, TCP/IP, Wireless and Ethernet Networks, Mobile Technology, Active Directory and SCCM, and Tablet Technology Excellent communication skills to deal effectively with Board personnel and technical staff A valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment. Experience with the following will be considered an asset: MS SharePoint.
