Director, Industry Affairs

Food & Consumer Products of Canada

This is a Full-time position in Mississauga, ON posted August 23, 2019.

Leadership isn’t always about telling people where to go and how to get there. Oftentimes the best leaders are facilitators: people who leverage their expertise, interpersonal skills, and insatiable desire to do better towards a common good. If you’re looking for an influential position, leading and facilitating industry change across the top CPG manufacturers in the country we’ve got a unique opportunity for you. Founded in 1959, FCPC ( is the largest voice of the Canadian food, beverage and consumer products industry. Our association represents small, independent and privately-owned companies, as well as large multinationals, who manufacture and distribute in Canada. Our work is making a difference in the Canadian CPG industry where our members can invest, grow, and add value to Canadian consumers. We’re looking to add a new member to our team: someone who’s self-motivated and collaborative and ready to lead FCPC’s supply chain practice increasing the value proposition for our members. If that sounds like you, we’re excited to meet you! As our new Director, Industry Affairs, you’ll take on a challenging and diverse role focused on implementing supply chain solutions across the grocery value chain, while building strong relationships within our membership. You’ll coordinate the interests of diverse member companies and industry stakeholders towards common goals focused on efficiencies and consumer value. This role operates at the intersection of varied stakeholders and interests, which is why you’ll need to excel at relationship building and project management. You’re proactive at all times, anticipate snags, and have proven strategies for driving consensus on new strategies and opportunities. A major part of your contributions will involve working with and through our supply chain council; you’re collaborative, resilient, and have a customer-centric focus. You’re not the sort of person who gets rattled by a setback because you’re already thinking of a solution. Here’s some of the things you’ll be working on day-to-day: * Lead Supply Chain Executive Council, influencing companies to implement industry best practices optimizing efficiencies and adding value to consumers.* Manage FCPC supply chain initiatives in accordance with membership priorities, working with manufacturers, and retailers, and 3rd party service providers where required.* Develop strong working relationships with supply chain leaders within our membership organizations as well as stakeholders across the supply chain.* Facilitate meetings and conversations towards a common goal through driving consensus.* Survey stakeholder needs, ensuring detailed understanding of objectives, scope, and ideal outcomes* Generate consensus and buy-in on supply chain initiatives from concept to delivery* Be a resource for member organizations as the primary contact on key industry and operational issues, providing perspective to members and feedback to retail partners* Generate ongoing strategies for improving membership satisfaction and engagement* Stay informed on industry trends, providing relevant reports, analysis, and recommendations where relevant* Collaborate with various departments and stakeholders on key events* Draft and deliver presentations for board, council, and membership meetings  Working with Us This is a full-time, permanent position, with flexible core hours. You’ll receive a great compensation package which includes salary plus bonuses, 5% RSP matching, and a health spending account. We’re a small group (just 22 people!), which has allowed us to develop a close and positive team culture. You’ll often find people working outside of their roles, pitching in, and being a resource for their colleagues. At FCPC, there’s more to coming into the office than just work; we take the time to recognize outstanding employees every month and take half-day Fridays all summer long. That’s the sort of environment we’ve created here: where everyone matters, you have the time and space to be yourself, and no good work goes unnoticed. Qualifications * Undergraduate degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field* 8+ years’ experience in consulting, supply chain management and process improvement, preferably in a consumable packed goods environment* Experience developing and achieving consensus on initiatives that require broad stakeholder input, alignment, and buy-in* Experience in project management, preferably in a membership-based organization* Experience with strategy development, relationship management, and facilitation* Proficiency in MS Office (especially Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) How to Apply Our online application will give you the option to apply to this role as a complete person – not just a resume. The application will assess your qualifications, personality traits and workplace preferences, and should take 10 to 15 minutes to complete. After submitting, you’ll receive an email inviting you to log in and view your assessment results.   We strive to build a team that reflects the diversity of the community we work in, and encourage applications from traditionally underrepresented groups such as women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, people identifying as LGBTQ2SI, veterans, and people with disabilities.  If we can make this easier through accommodation in the recruitment process, please contact us using the “Help” button.   We will review applications, with priority given to those who have completed the assessment, and look forward to hearing from you.
